Reportable Accident

Pursuant to 17 NYCRR Part 722.1, whatever carrier subject to New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) inspection jurisdiction must immediately written report to the Section whatsoever incident that meets the definition of a reportable accident. No work shall be performed on and no passengers shall be transported in the vehicle involved until information technology is released by the Department. The vehicle may exist removed/towed from the accident scene under the jurisdiction of an investigating police bureau. Additionally y'all may need to written report the accident to the New York State Section of Motor Vehicles (NYSDMV) and/or New York State Department of Education (NYSED).

Whatsoever accident being reported via telephone must be made to the Department's Statewide Transportation Information & Coordination Centre (STICC) at (518) 457-3765.

Definition of a Reportable Accident

(a) Any accident in any fashion involving a motor vehicle subject to department inspection, which results in the loss of life or injury of any rider, employee or other person, or which was caused by mechanical failure (regardless of whether or non injuries were incurred), shall exist immediately reported to the department past telephone or electronically to: sticc@dot.ny.gov

(b) In addition to an incident normally known as an accident, the following are reportable accidents within the purview of this Part:

any mechanical failure;
evidence of intrusion into the body of the vehicle of carbon monoxide, frazzle fumes emitted from such vehicle, or other baneful gases or smoke;
fume (other than normal exhaust) emanating from the engine or any other part of the vehicle, whether internal or external; and
presence of or emission, whether internal or external, of sparks, flame or burn.

(c) No work shall be performed on and no passengers shall be transported in the vehicle involved until it is released past the Department of Transportation.
